Aquatic Therapy

Our therapists have access to a dedicated lane of the pool located within Atlantis that varies from 3 feet to 5.5 feet of depth. Aquatic therapy is most often associated with a transition to, or integrated with land-based therapy. The buoyancy properties of water are an excellent way to facilitate flexibility and range of motion, as well as to unload compressive forces across the spine and joints. The resistive properties of water provide an excellent alternative to introduce strength and endurance training that might otherwise not be tolerated well on land. Your doctor and/or therapist will decide if a trial in the pool would be beneficial for your condition.

All of our therapists are certified in Lifeguard and Water Safety by the American Red Cross. Pool therapists have taken specialized courses in water therapy. Furnace Brook P.T. is excited to offer this service as Aquatic Therapy can accelerate the rehab process, minimize pain, and improve patient outcomes. A sample of conditions often indicated for Aquatic Therapy Include
Postoperative Total Knee and Hip surgeries
Pre and Postoperative spinal disc surgeries
Arthritis
Postoperative Rotator Cuff and Labral Repairs
Severe Muscle strains/ Joint sprain
Paul Kearney, CEO of Atlantis Sports Clubs adds, " The mission of our Clubs is to promote health. Furnace Brook P.T. has a 23 year history of restoring function on the South Shore. We looked at this partnership as a way to provide the therapists with the means to expand their services for those patients who would heal faster and regain their health more efficiently through the use of pool therapy. We are pleased to offer their patients an environment where they can carry on their rehabilitation and regain their fitness after their therapy concludes."
